Dust: An Elysian Tale Could Very Well Be Making It's Way To The PS Vita

Dust: An Elysian Tale is a 2D Action RPG that saw its original release on the X-Box 360. Recently the games creator Dean Dodrill took to the Playstation Blog to announce he will bring the cult hit over to the Playstation 4 system.

Needless to say a fan hit up the comment section making a plea for the PS Vita. The Fan stated "A shame no Vita version though since that's where platformers shine." On that not Mr. Dodrill showed us that maybe a Vita version isn't all that unlikely. He replied "Thanks! While I'm only announcing PS4 right now. I love my Vita, and personally hope to have some good news in the future."

There you have it, not a concrete answer but the evidence is there. Mr. Dodrill is only announcing the PS4 version right now. It's very possible the game is in development for the PS Vita as well. So what do you think, are we going to Dust: An Elysian Tale on the PS Vita, and do you even care?

RPG Platformer Salt and Sanctuary Coming To The PS Vita Next Year

Fans of the 2D horror platformers listen closely. Ska Studios has officially announced they will be bringing their new title, Salt and Sanctuary, over to the PS Vita and PS4 as an exclusive.

In Salt and Sanctuary players take the role of a sailor shipwrecked on a mysterious island that reminds me a lot of the land of Limbo. Ska Studios says the emphasis in Salt and Sanctuary is "stylistic side scrolling combat." There is a great amount of depth in the combat in the game as well. At the end of the day Salt and Sanctuary is an RPG Platformer at its core.

Salt and Sanctuary is set to launch sometime next year on the PS4 and PS Vita. Although these details are unknown at this time it is presumed the game will implement cross-buy and cost around $14.99. What do you think of Salt and Sanctuary, is it worth picking up? Let us know in the comments below.

Escape Dead Island Being Seriously Considered For The PS Vita

Deep Silver's Ryan Avery headed over to the Playstation Blog to announce the upcoming release of their new title Escape Dead Island. Escape Dead Island is currently expected to come to the PS3 alone on November 18th. However it looks like there may be a great possibility we could be playing this on the PS Vita very soon.

Fans took to the comment section on the Playstation Blog to voice their excitement and concerns. One fan asked "Why no PS4 love?" To which Mr. Avery Responded "We focused on making the best possible experience on the PS3 platform..." Basically shooting down any thoughts of escape Dead Island heading to the PS4.

Now to the good news. A couple fans were arguing the fact that the game would be a perfect fit for the PS Vita. One fan in particular commented "Would you guys consider a Vita release for the title? Looks like it would really be at home on it.". So to our great joy and satisfaction here is what Mr. Avery of Deep Silver Games had to say to that fan. "You make a good point. We can certainly consider the Vita. It would be fun to sneak around an island full of zombies as you're riding the train to work. It will definitely make your commutes interesting. :D"

How awesome is that. Can't you already imagine being able to play a third-person survival mystery (with zombies) on the PS Vita. After the shock wears off let us know what you think in the comments below.

Is Earth Defense Force 2 Coming To The PS Vita?

Earth Defense Force fans rejoice. Because if a report from Gematsu is correct it looks as if Earth Defense Force might be making its way over to the PS Vita. However the game is only being rumored for Japan currently without any information regarding a release in North America.

This report doesn't seem too unlikely considering the fact that Earth Defense Force has already made a fairly successful appearance on the PS Vita and PSP. This game in question was a very popular PS2 classic that would be a lovely fit for the Vita. It is reported that the visuals, and online capabilities will also be beefed up a little bit.

Getting the Low Down About Phoenix Force with an Interview with Awoker Games

Hello everyone! As you may all know, recently there was a Twitter campaign aimed at Awoker Games to bring their highly successful mobile game Phoenix Force to the PS Vita. Vitaboys hunted them down to give us the low down on their anticipated game!

    1. For the fans who do not know who Awoker Games are, can you tell us a little bit about the company and Phoenix Force?

I’m Sérgio, I’m from Brazil, and I started making games when I was 14, and 5 years later, I decided to make a shoot ‘em up with only boss battle that were both challenging and played in quick sessions. That turned out to be Phoenix Force!
Today, Awoker Games is composed by me taking care of game development, and Lucas, taking care of marketing opportunities.

    2. With Phoenix Force being a success on mobile, has there been any major talks about bringing the game to other platforms?

Yes, I like playing on smartphones and tablets, but we believe that if we don’t reach the traditional platforms, we’ll be losing a lot players that would really love Phoenix Force.

    3. As we all know, there was a huge response by the Vita faithful to bring Phoenix Force to our favorite handheld. Were you surprised with the positive feedback?

Yes! I was happily surprised! I don’t even know how vita players found about Phoenix Force on Twitter, but the feedback was so great that I already bought a PS Vita to start development soon! :)

    4. Shahid Ahmad has been a driving force in bringing a large variety of games to the PS Vita. Have you been in contact with him about bringing Phoenix Force over to the Vita? If so, how have those talks been going?

I sent him an email asking for marketing opportunities, but he did not answer me. :C (the fact that I waited for that is what delayed my answer to this interview)
Even without Shahid’s support, we still desire to bring Phoenix Force to Vita, and we are going to start a Kickstarter campaign to further develop the game and make the port possible.

    5. The most important question that all oue fans want to know, when should we all expect to see Phoenix Force to be released?

We want to deliver Phoenix Force to Vita players when the game is complete with 200 levels, cinematics, and a higher level of polishing.
You can expect it to be released in October! :)

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth! October isn't so far away and Vitaboys will defientely help Awoker get the attention of Shahid about an upcoming Vita game. We may be a small group, but our voices are loud!!! Stay tuned for the release date and review of Phoenix Force.

PS Vita PS Now Open Beta Launching This Fall

Hey guess what, you only have a few months till you get to use PS Now on your PS Vita. That's right Sony has listed that PS Now will be holding an open beta on the PS Vita sometime this Fall.

For anyone unaware, PS Now is an online game rental system. Players can rent select PS3, PS2, and eventually PS4 games straight to their favorite Sony device. So this fall expect that on your PS Vita!

The open beta has already launched over on the PS4, with relatively mixed reviews. It seems as if the service is great but perhaps the prices are too high. Only time will tell how well PS Now does.  However it can't hurt to have some great classics on the PS Vita.  Maybe I can finally play The Last of Us!

Digimon Cyber Sleuth Localization Petition Reaches 50,000 Signatures

Wow! PS Vita fans are at it again. If you recall over the past week we have convinced 2 developers to bring their games over to the greatest handheld system on the market. Well this time around PS Vita fans have shown their loyalty by reaching 50,000 Signatures to bring Digimon Cyber Sleuth to NA PS Vitas.

Now here is where we stand with the potential localization process. Obviously reaching 50,000 Signatures does not guarantee anything. Namco Bandai will be launching Digimon All Star Rumble for the PS3 and XBox 360, it is likely that they may use these to test the waters. I'd say it is fairly unlikely to see a localization in our near future for the PS Vita.  However Namco Bandai is good about porting games over to the Vita, so all cards are on the table.

The real story here isn't the potential localization of a Digimon game. No, the real story here is the fact that PS Vita fans can come together to get stuff done when they want to. After a disappointing E3 and a potentially shaky Gamescom, Vita fans might have to learn to get work done on their own. Let's see what you guys can do next, and sound off in the comments section below.

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited PS Vita Review

I’m sure everyone has heard stories about the Disgaea series; endless grinding, thousands of hours of gameplay, and Prinnies! The latest entry for the PS Vita does not shy away from what made the series great and at the same time it continues intimidate gamers around the world. Long time fans of the series need not to worry, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited is exactly what you love and need in handheld form.

Gameplay 9/10- Disgaea 4 is a traditional, straight forward strategy game that’s played out on a grid system. Many old timers can see a slight resemblance to Final Fantasy Tactics, because at its core, it is a strategy game just on steroids. Not only do you have to worry about the foes on the grid or properly placing your fellow friends on the map, you have added variables such as Geo Blocks and Panels that can aid or bring you down depending on the situation. These panels and blocks can add and subtract stats such as defense, attack power, etc which can provide massive headaches if you are not well equipped for the situation.

Luckily for newcomers of the series, the games first couple of chapters serve as a great tutorial to the nuances of the Disgaea series. Combos, placements, throws, Geo Panel/Blocks are all covered at its most fundamental level. The game gives you the tools and shows you how to use them, but it’s up to the player to use his or her brain to successfully use them all together.  In addition to the actual weapons on the battlefield, Disgaea 4 allows you to petition the underworld’s government to pass certain laws that can make life a whole lot easier. From bribery to flat out beating a vote out of a politician, you have all this in the palm of your hand to form the game how you want it. Every new entry in Disgaea adds new mechanics on top of a crowded field, from equipping a monster as a gun or making one huge Prinny will bring a smile to your face and one more weapon in your arsenal. This is what makes the Disgaea series great. It isn’t just your run of the mill SPRG, it’s very challenging and rewarding once you get over the hump. Enemies and bosses won’t let you walk all over them unless you’ve put some time into properly leveling and equipping your party and using all the game’s mechanics properly.

Story 9/10- I need to get my Prinnies their sardines!! I will not rest until I fulfilled my promise to them. The game casts the role of Valvatorez who was a previous tyrant in Netherworld that has taken over a low level job in the prison as a Prinny instructor. For those who don’t know what a Prinny is, it is an afterlife for humans who are evil such as murderers, thieves and they always end a sentence with the word dood (As per Prinny rule #1). Valvatorez fights to control what was once his and is disgusted by the corruption that has taken place since he has left. Along the adventure, he meets a wonderful cast of characters that make the story charming despite the setting taking place in Hell. Despite the story being straight forward on the surface, there are many twists and turns that are revealed the more you play. Wonderful dialogue and humor help the story to move along to where there’s never a dull point as you go through the chapters of the game.

Replay 10/10- There are 9999 levels to get to in Disgaea 4. Yeah, I said that right. Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine levels. There is no shortage of content in this series. Once you have finished the main story, the Item World awaits. The Item World allows you to go into actual items and level them up. So you can think of this as another game in its own right. With hundreds of levels, you can spend so much time in there leveling up and getting lost in the game. Whether you want to face roll the story all over again or take part in each of the main characters ending, the choice is yours. You can easily spend thousands of hours in this game before you can actually be “done” with it.

Graphics/Sound 9/10- At the time of the PS3 release in 2011, Disgaea 4 was the best looking game in the franchise and that same look has transferred quite well to Sony’s handheld. The sprite based animation is beautiful to look at and everything is easily viewable no matter which camera option you choose. Each character has their own distinct look and still manages to keep that classic Disgaea charm that veterans of the series will know and love. The sound is the top notch in this release. With the choice of the English dub (which is what I chose) and the Japanese dub is also included for the purists who prefer to play their Japanese games with the original voiceovers. The brilliant writing comes to life with every character as most of the game is voiced. From the witty banter of Valvatorez, to the always funny Prinnies and their hilarious trademark “dood!” you can see a lot of detail has gone into the game not only visually, but audibly as well. NISA has done a great job with this port and fans will not be disappointed.

    Gameplay- 9/10
    Story- 9/10
    Replay- 10/10
    Graphics/Sound- 9/10
    Overall- 9/10

The Muppet Movie Adventures Headed To The PS Vita

It is official, the PS Vita has received another huge AAA title exclusive. Well that actually might be an overstatement. In actuality the PS Vita will be recieving The Muppet Movie Adventures exclusively on the handheld system.

The details on this game are very thin. However we do know players will take on the roles of the Muppet characters as they adventure through various movie genres. You will be able to explore five worlds, containing adventures from Spaghetti Westerns to Sci Fi Thrillers.

It is slightly odd that the game will be releasing as an exclusive to the Vita. It seems as if Sony might have had to pull a few strings there. Perhaps it's another way for Sony to market the Vita towards kids a bit more.  Whatever the reason expect to see The Muppets grace your screen very soon.

The game looks extremely interesting and a great fit for the Vita. It is expected to release next spring. Keep an eye out for more details, as we will be reporting them as they occur!

    Freedom Wars PS Vita Review

(Editors Note: This review will differ from the traditional review style of the VitaBoys due to the game currently only being an Import for North American, and European Regions)

Story- Freedom Wars is the newest action RPG game from SCE Japan Studio and it is set in the year 102013 where the human race is imprisoned in areas known as Panopticons (47 total to match the 47 Japanese Prefectures) which are in constant war against one another. Panopticon is an area that provides security for its citizens in exchange for time off the million year sentence that all newborns are given. In addition to the million year sentence, all citizens must obey the strictest of laws and if they are broken (by the way, you are automatically guilty), you are given additional years for every offense. This goes for resting, running, talking, etc. By performing various tasks, you can buy certain freedoms and this is essential for advancing the story and game.

Gameplay- Freedom Wars is the standard team action RPG that that many Monster Hunter and God Eater fans will recognize. All offer online and offline play that take place in different areas of the game world fighting huge monsters and defeating them before the set time expires. In Freedom Wars, the player is fighting huge weapons named Abductors because, you guessed it, and they abduct civilians. And it’s up to you and your merry band of misfits named Accessories which provide you with support and attack abilities during the fight. For the most part, they are helpful, but usually you’ll be let down by their subpar AI and the inability to get out of the fire. Many times I’ve seen my whole crew get demolish because they will not get out of the way of attacks while the enemy AI is spot on and will kill you with authority while your team is picking daisies on the other side of the map.

When the AI cooperates with you, the game shines. With various guns and sharp weapons, you can play the way you like. Whether you like hand to hand combat or sniping from a rooftop, Freedom Wars has what you need. Sharp skills in both areas will guarantee that you will succeed in this game. In addition to the melee and ranged weapon attacks, you are introduced to the “Thorn”. The thorn is a type of whip that the player can use to scale building, enemies and abductors.  Using the thorn effectively on an abductor can yield positive results like tripping over the weapon to get free melee hits as well as scaling the abductor to try and rescue the abductees.

Once you perform the rescue, it’s a mad chase to the rescue pod. When this happens, the Abductor will go and chase you down preventing you from performing a successful rescue. Rescuing is a part of the game that’s essential in ending a battle early but it’s also the most frustrating as once you hold down X to sprint, there’s no way to control your character. If you are being chased down and run into a wall, you will be knocked down and drop the person you are carrying. So you must slow down and speed up when appropriate and you should be successful. If not, you’ll probably be one or two shotted and will have to either get revived or respawn at a checkpoint.

Graphics/Sound- Freedom Wars is one beautiful game. While most of it is dark and brown, there is still plenty of detail that makes the game shine. From the abductors to the accessories, you can tell that plenty of time was spent on the looks of the game and it shows.  The game looks to be running at native resolution but it suffers from massive frame rate dips as it struggles with maintaining 30FPS when the action gets busy. It’s not game breaking but it is noticeable especially when trying to time your attacks and/or getting the hell out of the way. But once you look past those flaws, there’s a pretty game that looks great on both the OLED and the LCD vita.
The game is fully voiced and it sounds fantastic. From the accessories to the robot PA system, the voice acting was really well done. Good news is that the localized release will keep the Japanese voices with English texts. I was a little disappointed with the gun sounds as they sounded a bit muffled and not as loud as I hoped they would be. Other than that, the sound effects sound great and helps with the immersion.

Ease of Import- This isn’t as straight forward as most Japanese hunting genre games go. There are certain events that must be triggered before moving on. While the majority will give you an indication of where to, but most times it won’t be there because you need to gather materials or buy certain freedoms before moving on. There’s a certain point in chapter 2 where many non Japanese speaking players will hit a major wall and would give up. Luckily, GameFAQs has a large Freedom Wars audience where you can be helped when stuck. Most of the time, you’ll be buying various freedoms with the credit you’ve earned and eventually you will unlock what you need. Also, taking a screenshot and comparing with what you are missing will help tremendously. Other than that, the game doesn’t need a lot of Japanese knowledge, just a lot of patience and time. But once you get through that hurdle, the game will flow and will have hardly any problems language wise. If you don’t know any Japanese and are eager to play it early, it’s a fun time. Other than that, I suggest to wait for the localization coming this fall to enjoy it as it was meant to be played.
